Zabmo ཟབ་མོ་: “Profound”
Ling གླིང་: “Grove/sanctuary/place/land”
A statement from the founder of Zabmo Ling:
In my decades of Buddhist practice, there is something I’ve heard fellow meditators say many times:
“I wish I could just go to a cave somewhere in Tibet and meditate.”
For some, that may just be a passing fantasy, but for many, it is a deep longing to practice somewhere that feels highly conducive to spiritual development, somewhere deep in nature where one feels free from the chaos of the world. It has been my aspiration to create a place like this in America that is spiritually powerful, easy to access, and affordable to stay and practice.
Zabmo Ling meets all those requirements, plus it has a stunning view, beautiful Tibetan Buddhist decorations, a distinct “mountain cave” style setup, and comfort that allows one to stay year round. The cabin has carefully designed features for meditation practice, including a meditation cushion that looks out to expansive views of the sky, a large shrine with open space for your own objects, a table for texts and ritual items, massive windows and an outdoor deck, special mats for physical yogic practice, a smooth wood board for full body prostrations, and even a “charnel ground”-like area for advanced tantric practice. Equally important, its design follows traditional retreat texts to the letter, such as the direction the cabin faces, the details of the meditation area, and even the geomancy of the land itself.
What sets Zabmo Ling apart:
Natural beauty and space: Zabmo Ling is located in the small town of Florissant, Colorado, and contains 3 acres all to yourself. The main retreat cabin is near the peak, but the land is varied, with shady groves, small peaks with cliffs below, and even small natural caves and overhangs. One can easily be a “wandering yogi” and practice in a different spot outside every day while staying at Zabmo Ling.
Open to everyone: You do not need to be associated with any particular religious tradition or be a member of any particular group to practice here. It is for all who wish to deepen their contemplative practice in a beautiful and secluded place. Though Zabmo Ling is designed in dedicated alignment with Tibetan Buddhist tradition, it is not associated with any specific Buddhist group, lineage, or authority. In this way, it also follows the tradition of the non-sectarian yogi, who simply focuses on solitary retreat for the benefit of all beings.
Spiritually powerful place: Many rare and precious objects have been placed on the land, some of which can be viewed. You will find a sacred and rare plaque of Padmasambhava, gold painted tsa tsas, statues, and a small stupa with sacred objects inside, filled according to tradition. There have already been several ceremonies blessing the land.
